Volvo has decided to offer a mobile device app that they say, will allow drivers to take their cars with them. Not literally, but the statement is fairly close to the truth as the new app will be the most in-depth system when it comes to controlling a car from anywhere. Available for iPhone and Android smart phone owners, the Volvo app is a modified extension of Volvo On Call which is the Swedish manufacture’s equivalent of On Star.

The app is designed to give Volvo owners further ease of ownership. The free to download application will allow drivers to control their car’s locks, find their car via a locator, remote start it, check their car’s “vitals” (engine oil, fluid levels, tire pressure etc.), as well as having the ability to view their model’s information such as VIN and trim features. The Volvo app will be available for all 2012 models.

“We design cars around people’s needs and lifestyle. Creating an intuitive and ergonomically optimised driver’s environment is part of our aim to offer a feeling of relaxed control. It is only logical that you should feel in command of your vehicle also after you have parked it,” says Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO at Volvo Car Corporation.
