The sexy red long-roof you see before you is the new and improved 2013 Audi RS6 Avant. It is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and makes 560 horsepower. It also comes mated to Audi’s legendary Quattro AWD system. Be still thy beating heart. The only transmission is an 8-speed tiptronic automatic (sad face).

It is no secret that we are fans of all things wagon here at Autotalk, and the RS6 has long been on our list of dream five-doors. This newest model is the best yet in nearly every aspect. The new car is not only more powerful, it weighs over 200 pounds less than its predecessor, and Audi says the fuel economy numbers are up to 24 mpg on the combined cycle; a whopping 40-percent improvement. It is also damned incredible when you consider the 3.9 second 0-60 time. Top speed is a very German 155 mph, but can be boosted depending on package and upgrade choices. The Dynamic package sees the Vmax sit at 174 mph, but real speed freaks will want the Dynamic plus with its fully unrestricted 190 mph top speed. To make sure all that power and cargo can make it through a nice mountain road, the RS6 is the first RS model to feature a specifically tuned air suspension system.

Like all RS models, this new one features tons of external goodies like a full body kit and some of the nicest rims we have seen in years. Of course we are devout believers of the “red ones go faster” mantra and appreciate the slick red paint in the press photos, but the new RS6 is available in Daytona Gray matte.

Long story shot, the new Audi RS6 is the stuff dreams are made of. As far as we are concerned, it is a clutch pedal away from perfect.
