Production of the full size, front wheel drive luxury sedan, the Cadillac DTS, has officially ended. The last DTS, a black on tan model, rolled off the Detroit-Hamtramck factory line and was greeted by its new owner, Nicola Bulgari. An avid car collector, Bulgari owns and operates his own luxury goods firm and has a serious collection of Cadillacs. The last DTS ever made is another addition to his list that includes Cadillacs as old and rare as the 1932 355B V-12 Fleetwood Limousine.

“I like the DTS because it’s a great sedan,” Bulgari said. “It’s the last of an era. I thought it would be wonderful to own the last Northstar in a DTS. It’s one of the best engines ever designed – reliable and a performer.” Bulgari’s statement holds true as the Northstar is Cadillac’s “crown jewel”: a highly sophisticated OHC V8 that made Cadillac history in the early 1990s.

Cadillac plans on replacing the DTS with a brand new model that could be based on the XTS concept. “I’ve seen the XTS Concept,” Bulgari said. “I know it’s superior. The DTS was a great sedan for its time, but it’s a different world, a new period. It’s time for something different.”
