For the 12 year in a row, the Indianapolis Lucas Oil Raceway will soon be awash with the demonic sounds that can only come from a HEMI V8. Taking place August 30, the 2012 Mopar HEMI Challenge will unleash some of the most legendary muscle cars the world has ever seen to battle each other in an all-out quarter-mile war. The two-day racing tournament will end with the top spot taking home $15,000, a 1st place trophy and most importantly, ultimate bragging rights.

Centered around the iconic NHRA Super Stock/A-HEMI class racers, the challenge pits two stone-cold cool Mopar names against each other on the strip. Opened to spec Dodge Darts and Plymouth Barracudas, these wheel standing monsters are capable of running the quarter mile in the 8 second range. The first day will include a qualifying run which will award the top qualifier $500. On the second day, a full-blown battle will take place as the ultimate winner will be given a cash prize of $15,000. Second, third and fourth place will receive $1,500 and $500 respectively.

“The NHRA Sportsman drag racers that compete in the Mopar HEMI Challenge are the backbone of the sport, and have a passion for the Mopar brand that they carry with them wherever they go. The Mopar HEMI Challenge is a great way to recognize their passion and dedication to the brand and the sport,” said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand.
