Hyundai may have expressed that it is reducing its race presence after this year, but apparently they are not abandoning the practice of building race cars. Enter the Cosworth developed Genesis Coupe. Dubbed the Cosworth Genesis Racing Series, the two door has received a full once over from the mechanical geniuses from Britain. This means the car’s 3.8-liter V6 now produces 389 horsepower and 325 lb/ft of torque. This was accomplished via a revised intake and exhaust system, revised ECU, and improved thermal management. Cosworth, being the group they are, didn’t stop with the engine. The new car also has a Cosworth big-brake kit and a Cosworth designed performance suspension.

The car is a SEMA special so there have also been a multitude of visual updates slathered over the car. The most noticeable is the unique “Satin/Gloss” blue paint. Carbon Fiber has been used prodigiously with the composite being found on the brake ducts, front splitter, side skirt lips, and rear diffuser. Unique wheels and an integrated trunk spoiler round out the visual package. The interior gets unique treatments for the steering wheel, shift knob, pedals and the shift boot. The whole interior, including the seats, gets a special two-tone treatment as well.

“The rear-drive Genesis Coupe is simply a great platform from which to build our ultimate Cosworth Genesis Racing Series street model,” said Nicole Armbrustmacher, director of marketing, Cosworth Americas. “The Cosworth Genesis Racing Series Coupe truly demonstrates the purpose-built performance potential of the affordable Genesis Coupe line. We’re proud to partner with Hyundai for this ultimate racing series model.”

Hyundai hasn’t released any official photos yet, so we only have the two artist renders presented here, but as soon as we get some pictures, we will be posting them for all the see.

We may not agree with all the SEMA-ness of its looks, (we do like the paint, at least) but it is hard to argue with the mechanical upgrades the Brits have given this car. We have always been a fan of Cosworth, and it is nice to see them with some product here on our shores. Now if we could just convince Hyundai to let us drive it….
