General Motors Co. said it has acquired the Durant-Dort Carriage Co. “Factory One” building in Flint, Mich., reports The Detroit News.

GM Spokesman Tom Wickham said the company would use the historic 25,000-square-foot building to showcase historic GM vehicles or host auto reveals and events for dealers and the community.

The company did not disclose the purchase price for the building. The seller was Carriage Factory LP.

“The office building is a National Historic Landmark. It was used from the late 1890s through the early 1900s by William C. “Billy” Durant and served as headquarters for the Durant-Dort Carriage Co., a horse-drawn carriage business, and Durant’s other automobile businesses. GM was founded in 1908 by Durant. Many decisions that led to the creation of GM occurred in the office building.”
