For the past few weeks, the United Auto Workers (UAW) union and General Motors have been working toward their next agreement. As of this writing, that agreement is made and will span the next four years. The company created a tentative plan that addresses the needs of the union workers and allows for future development into home-based manufacturing.

A ratification vote will take place after the proper member education of the agreement, which could happen between seven and 10 days from now. If the agreement is ratified, it could possible cover nearly 48,500 General Motors employees. At the moment, the full terms of the agreement are not being shared with the public, but Cathy Clegg, GM vice president for Labor Relations did share a few words.

“We used a creative problem solving approach to reach an agreement that addresses the needs of employees and positions our business for long-term success. We worked hard for a contract that recognizes the realities of today’s marketplace, enabling GM to continue to invest in U.S. manufacturing and provide good jobs to thousands of Americans.”
