General Motors announced Monday their plans for a $600 million investment in the Fairfax Assembly and Stamping Plant in Kansas City.

The investments include a new 450,000 square-foot paint shop, with substantial upgrades in technology, new tooling, and robots. Also being purchased is a new stamping press that’s used to create some of the structural reinforcements for vehicle frames.

Currently the plant is producing the Buick LaCrosse and Chevrolet Malibu and will continue building the cars uninterrupted, keeping the nearly 4,000 people working there on the job. The construction project is expected to take roughly two years to complete. The $600 million investment is just a portion of the $2 billion invested at the Fairfax plant over the last decade.
