General Motors has named Jeff Boyer as vice president for global vehicle safety, reports The Detroit News.

Boyer will oversee GM’s global safety efforts as it seeks to stem the fallout from the company’s recall of 1.6 million vehicles for ignition switch defects linked to 12 deaths and 31 crashes.

Boyer, who has spent 40 years in a wide range of engineering and safety positions at GM, “will have global responsibility for the safety development of GM vehicle systems, confirmation and validation of safety performance, as well as post-sale safety activities, including recalls,” GM said.
