General Motors announced that it will roll out its OnStar safety, security and navigation services on a few vehicles in Mexico this year, reports The Detroit News.

Launched in 1996, OnStar provides services to more than 6.5 million subscribers in the U.S., Canada and China.

OnStar services, including automatic crash response, remote door lock and turn-by-turn navigation, will first be available for consumers in Mexico on the 2014 Chevrolet Cheyenne and 2014 GMC Sierra pickup truck, GM said.

The company also said that the 2014 Cadillac ATS luxury sedan will be added later this year and more Chevy, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles equipped to work with OnStar will be available next year.

Subscribers in Mexico will avail OnStar services free for a year.

GM has opened a call center in Mexico to provide directions, vehicle information and emergency services to consumers in that market.
