Now this is a fun thought exercise. The Mazda MX-5 Miata is basically alone in the marketplace. While there are cheap RWD cars out there (looking at you FR-S/BRZ) if you want a convertible, the pickings get very slim. In fact, if you really want to find a car that feels and drives like the Miata does in regards to handling over speed, you need to head all the way up to the Porsche Boxster.

While it may seem like a crazy idea to compare a bargain-barrel Mazda to one of the most prestigious marques in the business, it’s not as crazy as you may expect. MazdaPartsUSA.com has put together a little infographic that shows the similarities and differences between the base Boxster and the new 2016 Miata. The results are closer than you expect. In fact, they conclude that the Miata has 90-percent of the performance for 50-percent of the price. Check out the graphic in full to understand how they came to their conclusion. The performance numbers may surprise you.
