To say that we are excited about Jaguar’s upcoming F-Type would be an understatement. The spiritual successor the old E-Type has gotten us all hot and bothered, aside from one little detail; an automatic transmission.

Now word comes from Autocar in the UK that there will be a three-pedal setup coming the new roadster. When speaking with global brand director Adrian Hallmark he stated, “Sports cars need a manual transmission for sports credibility” and that Jaguar recognizes the “cost and fun” benefits of manuals. Even better, Hallmark said the gearboxes will feature a “minimum of six speeds”. We look forward to a potential Porsche rivaling 7-speed manual.

Now he does on to say that he could not imagine a manual equipped XJ, and we might be inclined to agree, but that an XF is a possible manual transmission candidate.

In more transmission news, Jaguar and Land Rover will be moving to ZF’s newest automatic transmission with 9-speeds, over the current 8-speed units.
