The 2014 Cadillac ELR got new looks and design and has a totally new feel and nothing like the Chevrolet Volt, whose production started in late 2010. 80% of this car is new.

The New Cadillac ELR is a luxury and has the same electric propulsion system with a backup gasoline engine as the Volt but with all the improvements and enhanced features all together.

The designers and engineers have re-created its interior and exterior. Exterior got some stylish look with hidden door handles and rearview mirrors attached to doors. Interior is also worth appreciating and features premium hand-stitched materials including leather. And also has real wood carbon fiber trim and buttons instead of door handles.

The production of ELR is starting from next month and it is built on the same line as GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant but it costs $40,000 more than a Volt.

The new ELR‘s electric charge made this car more powerful and sporty than a Volt and more like a Cadillac.

Horsepower has boosted by 58 to 207 and torque increased to 295 from 273 And added the range of more than 345 miles. The wheels on the ELR are 20-inchers vs. the 17-inch wheels on the Volt. Drivers can use four modes: tour, sport, mountain and a hold mode that lets drivers decide when to use their electric range.

Chief Engineer Chris Thomason said that they added some new things in software which allows us to get more current and power out of its propulsion system and they thought this is the right thing to do for the customer satisfaction.

The ELR will be sold in limited quantities i.e. 2000 to 4000 in its first year, and its price will be starting from nearly $76,000 and reaching $83,000.

GM is marketing this new ELR for those people who do not think consider buying a Cadillac. And also wants to attract buyers with household incomes of $150,000 or more. And also it’s all about the feel of the car, the driving, and the handling which makes it unique.

The car is available in four exterior colors (crystal red costs $995 extra), and a fifth avenue new edition which features a white diamond color and upgraded 240-volt charging will be available for $89,500, this is limited edition of 100.

A few luxury options are also available in packaging such as different wheel finish, IntelliBeam headlights and rear cross-traffic and side blind-zone safety-alert systems for $1,695, adaptive cruise control and collision mitigation braking for $1,995 and Kona brown leather interior package for $2,450.
