Mitsubishi Motors North America and Mitsubishi Electric & Electronics USA have been putting massive effort into their electric car development, especially after the EPA officially rated the range of the upcoming i electric car. In order to keep that development going, a brand new charging station has been built by the Mitsubishi companies. The station, which is located in Cypress, California, is unique in that it is powered simply by the sun.

“This project will build awareness of solar power’s versatility and efficiency,” said Katsuya Takamiya, president and chief executive officer for Mitsubishi Electric & Electronics USA. Powered by 95, 175 watt modules, the station is able to charge up to four vehicles at once. It also features three different types of chargers for different voltages. The 110 volt charger will deliver a 100 percent charge in 22 hours, the 220 volt will do it in six hours and a quick charger can offer up to a 80 percent charge in just 25 minutes. Mitsubishi also collaborated with Eaton Corporation for the installation of the “CHAdeMO” quick charger.

“We hope that our dealers, learning institutions, and municipalities will look to this technology with a keen eye towards the future, and bear in mind that the gradual acceptance of the pure-EV transportation will be aided by increasing the number of facilities like this one,” said Mitsubishi Motors North America President Yoichi Yokozawa.
