Nissan and Daimler have signed a memorandum of understanding for a 50-50 Mexican joint venture (JV), reports Reuters.

The JV is designed to produce future vehicle models for Infiniti and Mercedes-Benz brands, Reuters reported, citing a person with knowledge of the matter.

In 2012, Nissan announced plans to build a first Infiniti model based on the current Mercedes compact car architecture. Production is due to start in Sunderland, northeast England next year.
