The annual and extremely prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed will be taking place the first of July 2011. The famous hill climb event is held over the span of three days and is literally a festival of all things fast. At this year’s event, Nissan is looking to set some new speed records that are not that ordinary. One Nissan will be debuted and two cars, the LEAF and the Juke will attempt to change Goodwood history.

The first record to break will be done in the fully electric and zero emissions LEAF. Unlike conventional, gas powered vehicles, the LEAF has the same gearing ratio in reverse as it does going forward. This means that it can potentially travel up to 90 mph in reverse and Nissan hopes to get very close to that. The LEAF will attempt to set a record for the fastest vehicle driven up the corse in reverse.

The compact Juke will challenge another record by driving on the course on two of its four wheels. Stunt driver Terry Grant will get the Nissan up on two wheels and try to stay that way for the entire length of Goodwood. He will also drive the LEAF in reverse.

This year’s Goodwood will also be the United Kingdom’s debut of the Nissan LEAF NISMO RC. The purpose-built race car version of the road going car, the NISMO RC still emits zero emissions. It will use it’s fully electric, 207 lb-ft of torque to travel up the hill climb for the first time.
