Nissan North America is recalling a select group of rear wheel drive vehicles using the VQ V6 engine. The problem lies within the oiling system which may not have been properly installed. The bolts that connect engine oil cooler and oil filter to the block were not torqued down to specification strength. Because of this, the piece that holds the oil filter and cooler assembly could break loose and thus, cause an oil leak. This has numerous consequences such as an increase risk road damage, fire and the engine itself loosing oil pressure and potentially seizing.

Vehicles affected are 2011 model year Infiniti FX crossovers and 2012 Infiniti M cars. Also at risk are 2012 model year Nissan Frontier pickups and NV vans as well as 2011 and 2012 model year Pathfinders and Xterras. So far Nissan is recalling a total of 14,718 vehicles and according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the notification is expected to start on or around January 19, 2012. After certified Nissan dealers inspect the bolts, they will replace them if their torque specifications are off. This remedy will occur free of charge to owners.
