Each year, the folks at J.D. Power and Associates put together their Vehicle Dependability Study to determine which new cars and trucks will have the best chances of surviving the test of time. For the 2012 edition, Toyota Motor Company could easily be seen as the overall winner as eight of their vehicles earned top-spot awards. That figure is more than twice as great as the next best manufacture and four other brand offerings managed to land on their respective segment podium. “We are extremely pleased that not only did we win awards in eight of the 14 model segments, but that in two segments we finished one-two and made the podium in 12 segments overall”, said Jim Lentz, President and Chief Operating Officer Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A.

A vehicle’s dependability performance is rated by J.D. Power and Associates on problems/100 scale. For 2012, Lexus improved greatly and earned the title number one overall nameplate with 23 fewer problems/100 compared to 2011. Toyota became the highest ranking n0n-premium brand and third overall while little Scion achieved its highest ever position: fifth overall. Compared to the previous year, Scion jumped up 17 spots for 2012 and reduced its problems/100 by 55 points.
