Last week British media mogul, and all-round wealthy crazy-man Richard Branson showed off his new Virgin Galactic space plane thing, named the VSS Unity. Being British and proud, Branson used the most capable and luxurious car with a UK badge you can find to help display his new creation when a Range Rover was the tow-car of choice to pull the new plane into the hangar. If you think a Range Rover sounds like an odd choice, just ask anyone to name a place where a Range Rover couldn’t go, you’d likely be stuck with “bottom of the sea” and “space.” Since it can’t go to space, may as well use it to tow the thing that will get you to space.

This is just latest gathering of the two British brand behemoths as Land Rover and Virgin Galactic partnered up back in 2014 to help promote educational growth, developing a wide array of STEM programs to inspire upcoming students and maybe even some of us older guys. Virgin Galactic utilizes an entire fleet of Land Rovers as part of its commercial day to day operations; providing transport at both the Mojave and New Mexico locations.

Those invited to see the official debut of the newest accomplishment from the self-made billionaire and his team of engineers, got to experience the majesty of both the future of space travel, and the power of a Range Rover. That sounds like a win-win to me. With the VSS Unity, it seems like the days of being able to pay for a seat in a space ship aren’t far off. If I ever get the opportunity you can bet I’ll be standing in line waiting for the chance to fulfill a lifelong childhood dream.
