While many states are offering incentives to buyers of alternative energy vehicles, Colorado is offering a huge discount to buyers who purchase a Chevy Volt. Any Colorado resident that buys or leases a Volt is eligible for a state tax credit of up to $6,000. Add that into the possible $7,500 tax credit from the federal government, and you are looking at a massive $13,500 in savings. To put that number a different way, $100 shy of the MSRP of a new 2012 Kia Rio.

“This rebate in Colorado provides an extra incentive for those that want to purchase or drive an energy-efficient and technologically advanced vehicle like the Chevrolet Volt,” said Volt Marketing Director Cristi Landy. “With the available state and federal tax credits, along with the fuel savings that many owners experience by charging daily, the Volt can fit the lifestyles and budgets of many people.”

So, if you happen to live in Colorado, maybe its time to consider a car with a bit more battery, and a little less price tag.
