More power almost always requires more energy. With a higher energy requirement, a vehicle’s fuel mileage tends to falls but sometimes, the drop is small enough that the extra output comes at no major compromise. For the 2013 Buick Verano Turbo, the power-to-mileage ratio is nice enough that a win-win situation is looking to be brought to the table. After recent testing, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has given the 250 horsepower sedan averages of 20 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. Those numbers are just one mpg less than the 180 horsepower base model.

By transplanting the 2.0 liter turbocharged Ecotec four cylinder into the lightweight sedan, the Verano is finally ready for fighting with heavy hands. Equipped with an available six speed manual transmission, the car will surely be able to achieve mileage greater than the EPA’s estimates if driven gingerly enough. With a 0-60 mph time of 6.2 seconds though, driving mature may prove more difficult than expected.
