General Motors will offer owners of vehicles recalled in the U.S. linked to a faulty ignition switch$500 off the purchase or lease of a new GM vehicle, reports The Detroit News.

Talking to dealers, the automaker said that it won’t repurchase any of the 1.37 million vehicles recalled in the U.S. linked to a faulty ignition switch.

The automaker will offer owners the rebate off a new car — and will pay for loaner or rental cars and to tow cars to the dealership if owners feel worried about their safety.

The rebate to affected customers comes while GM is facing more pressure about the length of time it took to recall older model Chevy Cobalts, Saturn Ions and other vehicles and as the Justice Department, NHTSA and Congress have opened investigations into GM’s recall.
