In order to keep the world’s best-selling car of all time rolling, it takes a lot of busy hands. Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Mississippi (TMMMS), one outfit responsible for U.S. made Corollas, is ready to push the compact icon into the future with an entirely new production shift. The site alone has the capacity to put out an annual number of 150,000 cars and employees approximately 2,000 people. Made possible by way of a $800 million investment, the Mississippi facility is the fourteenth North American Toyota plant.

“Adding a second shift is a significant milestone for us,” said David Copenhaver, vice president of administration at TMMMS. With the new shift and added workforce, Toyota’s total direct U.S. employment is nearly 31,000. That number doesn’t include the dealership network, which brings the figure up to more than 365,000 strong. “Our team members’ strong work ethic and focus on quality and safety has begun to pay dividends for Corolla customers across North America as we continue production ramp up through spring.”
