Thirty seven miles in 19:15.888. Remember that statistic, but there’s a good chance you won’t have to retain it for long because soon it should be irrelevant.

In 2014 Manx-born rally driver Mark Higgins set a new Isle of Man TT record for a car while driving a mostly stock 2015 Subaru WRX STI. He destroyed his old record, set in a 2011 STI, but he and Subaru aren’t happy just being the fastest car on the 37-mile road course. They want to be the fastest at the Isle of Man. Period.

Currently the overall record stands at 17:03.567 set on a Honda CBR1000RR, which by all accounts is a beast of a bike. While that insane record will be difficult to beat, Subaru is hoping to get closer than they’ve ever been before.

Teaming up with ProDrive again – those who followed Subaru’s WRC team in the past will be excited by that name – Subaru is building their first car specifically designed for a time attack on the Isle of Man course. Expect it to be an absolutely stunning run. Very few details (other than pictures) have been released on the car itself at this time, but it appears from pictures that the car has a stripped interior, safety bits, lots of aero mods and a tweaked suspension. No word at all on if the engine has been modified or not.

The Isle of Man TT takes place from May 28 to June 10th, with the record attempt happening on closing day. Check back here shortly thereafter to see if Higgins makes memorizing his past record unnecessary. Even if he doesn’t beat it, his drive is guaranteed to be exciting.
